Structural Engineer

The original structure was built in the 1960s, it required an extension & loft conversion to help give the owners more space in their Victorian terrace home.
The design looked to create an experientially rich dwelling through its use of materials. The façades to the new additions have been clad in off-white corrugated steel sheets matching the aluminium colour of windows frames and doors. Meanwhile, inspired by Belgian Brutalism, exposed block-work with high recycled content delineates the whole perimeter of the site as a uniting theme, creating – together with exposed steel beams, concrete floor and metal deck – what the architect describes as ‘an ascetic
domesticity’.
The work on the property took approximately 12 months, with completion in December 2021.
The project has allowed the initial area of the house to double in size, allowing the owners to utilise the space for many more activities, hybrid working being just one example. The modern twist on a classic Victorian home complements the architecture in the Camberwell area perfectly.
